The lights! They burn bright!

I have been lacking on the updates the past two weeks but that’s cause Finals consumed my week(s) but now that summer is here Music is reborn into more awesomeness. Seriously, what is it about hot sweaty summers being the best time for music and concerts in general? It’s like perfect. I like to think that the hot sweaty summers fall in nicely with the hot sweaty attractive rockstars you are watching on stage during a show! :P THUMBS UP FOR THE HOT ROCKSTARS, right? Fuck yes!

Since this is the first post of the summer season, what perfect time is it to introduce a band that is totally rockin’ the summer vibe?!  One of those bands that you can jam to  in the car with the windows down on a hot sweaty day(yeah having the AC on is for losers, SWEAT IT OUT to a hot band full of hot bandmembers! haha). This band is a little different then the last couple bands featured due to the fact that they are signed to Doghouse records and are getting a lot of buzz about them through Alternative Press and other magazines.

Nuff’  with the guessing games, this band is none other then THE BIGGER LIGHTS (www.myspace.com/thebiggerlights) hailing from Fairfax, Virginia. I’ve loved this band for quite sometime after finding out about them during MySpace’s heyday and through becoming fans of The Crash Moderns(who played a few shows with TBL on the East Coast before).

I mentioned in earlier posts about a team of fangirls who started a Fan club/fan page entitled the “Dot Dot Clan” that promoted five bands, The Pink Spiders, The Crash Moderns being two, The Bigger Lights later being the fifth. This fan page has since been disbanded(like a majority of MySpace fan pages these days, right?)

Anyway, I instantly fell in love w/ The Bigger Lights when I heard “Goldmine Valentine”  and “Apocalypse”  in 2007 and have since loved each song they put out, from “Reved and Ready” to most recent songs including “Jessie”, “Hey Summer” and “Queen of Broken Hearts”, to name a few.

What I LOVE about this band is how they constantly succeed in making awesomely catchy and  original songs. Sure, I can give you a list of bands that fit their sound pretty well (Cute Is What We Aim For, Friday Night Boys, The Audition, etc.) but their music isn’t heavily influenced by those bands, They created a sound that plays into the pop punk genre nicely while still allowing themselves to put their own spin on the genre, which I think is what will help bring that genre back to the greatness it once was at.

Unfortunately, I do not have any live experiences of theirs under my concerting belt yet. All the times leading up to the present that they have rolled through Chicago, for one reason or another, fate just hasn’t been able to bring me to a Bigger Lights show. However, I am happy to finally get the chance to check them out when they come to town in June with Cute Is What We Aim For!

Honestly, for all of you who like Cute is What We Aim For, You’ll like The Bigger Lights, fur sureee!  And Major Major kudos to Shaant Hacikyan (CIWWAF) and whoever else, for putting TBL on that bill. That show is destined to be awesome!
