This next band I got into thanks to another featured band, my buds in The Crash Moderns. Back in the last decade, in 2009 The Crash Moderns went on tour with this band and introduced me to quite possibly the band with the most infectious songs around. The band is The Takeover Uk (www.myspace.com/thetakeoveruk) and no, they aren’t from the UK like their name suggested, they are actually from Pittsburgh! Yup, they are American boys.
Unfortunately, they announced in late 2009 that they were calling it quits so two of the original 4 TTUK members, Nic Snyder and Josh Sickels could start their new band titled the simple, “1,2,3” (http://www.myspace.com/1comma2comma3) which has three songs currently on the MySpace player showing a more mellow sound in comparison to the infectious and catchy Takeover UK songs, apart from the track, “Going Away Party” which sounds like it could be in the soundtrack to Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (Love that movie, btw!).”1,2,3” has a twitter as well: www.twitter.com/123theband
Even though The Takeover UK is technically not a band anymore, they have released two AMAZING(there’s the key word) albums that are just bitchin’ awesome. They are like The Pink Spiders, in a way, both bands have put out truly awesome albums before going on hiatus so half the band can go out and start another band.
The Takeover Uk’s music is infectious, like I said. I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU to listen to the track, “AH LA LA” and NOT have the song stuck in your head for the rest of the day! After I first saw them with the Crash Moderns in March 2009, I instantly fell in love with that song, along with my friend who I dilberately tweeted and texted her “Ah La La La La” so she will have the song stuck in her head! It was a riot! That’s what I mean, The Takeover Uk’s music gets in your head and pulls you in! Proof of amazing musicians!
My personal favorite songs would have to be, “Ah La La” of course, along with “Never Been So Sick”, “Kill Me Dead”, “Running with the Wasters”, “Don’t Wait Up”, “Lean on it”, “Sick of Love”, to name a few.
Listening to their music instantly reminds me of that crash moderns show they put on. Takeover… was headlining, Crash… was opening and despite the show being on a Wednesday night and a good half of the concert patrons showed up after Crash’s set and left before Takeover’s set because of the local bands that played in between, that night had to be the most fun I’ve had at a show. Nevermind that the turnout for both bands’ sets were less then acceptable, it was truly so much fun. (right down to Tommy Eichmann having a bit too much to drink and pushing into us all to dance to “Ah La La”)
The Takeover UK currently have a 5-song EP with “Lean on it”, “Ah La La”, “Sick of Love”, “Oh You’re Nothing”, and “Don’t Wait Up”
They also have a full length album, “Running with the Wasters” with 13 songs on it including a 3 of the 5 songs featured on the EP. RWTW album should still be found in stores as well as the digital versions found online: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=The+Takeover+Uk&x=0&y=0
