One question: Are You Insecure?

So this next band got its name from those little fears and doubts we all have. The stuff we don’t want anyone to know that bother us, the kind of shit we all like to keep away locked up so the people around us won’t judge our personalities if they ever found out. We all are guilty of having one, or a few insecurities and this Chicago area band, ironically named,  THE INSECURITIES(www.iminsecure.com), encourage their fans to break out of that protective shell and share what they are insecure about. Whether it be something they don’t like about their body, state of mind, or mental functioning, The Insecurities are all about their little tagline, “I’m Insecure.” They even created their own trademark (yeah i guess it’s pretty trademarky, w/o the legal shit tied to it) hashtag on Twitter which is “#iminsecure” where the band urge their fans and followers alike to tweet the hashtag along with their own insecurity they may have.

Now I first came across The Insecurities from another featured band, DOT DOT DOT (www.dotdotdotonline.com) when they opened for Dot at the House of Blues Chicago in June ‘09.  Now, I’ve heard of The Insecurities briefly before but nothing really led me to remember to look them up when I was at the computer. I think, it’s different when you listen to new music RIGHT AWAY as opposed to being told about said band and then having to remember the name of the band until you got to a computer to stream some music.

Anyway, First impression of The Insecurities was that they have a lot of enthusiasm on stage, stylish dudes and they have more then the traditional 3-5 band member count on stage with them.  After seeing them a total of 3 times live, I’ve noticed that the number of people on stage increases with each song on the set list.  There are the simple instrumental songs like “Run Run Baby” and “Circle Three Times” (btw, two of my absolute favorites, but you go be the judge and hit up www.myspace.com/theinsecuritiesmusic). And then you get songs like “Bonnie and Clyde(Mister Mister) that push the limits for what rock music traditionally sounds like.  During this song, as evidence by the CD version, this song has a freakin’ trumpet and a saxophone! Yeah! Don’t hear that too often with rock bands, do ya? Not to mention, lead singer, Stubhy’s vocals are complete for this song when they invite friend, Mia LeBlon on stage.

Another interesting instrument that makes it into some songs is the harmonica! In addition to playing the vocal box, Stubhy also majors in harmonica blowin’ which is pretty damn impressive, if i do say so myself.

I’d have to say, The Insecurities successfully combine some Rock with some Jazz and Pop and maybe a tad Blues….They are like to the rock scene the mutts of the dog breeds! (you know, like that one dog that’s got like 5 different dogs breeds mixed in?! yeah, don’t ask me how the heck that happened, that dog’s “bitch” must have been a whore! hahaha)

Like I keep saying, words cannot fully express how awesome these bands are so i urge you, if you took the time to read this entry, then take some time and visit www.myspace.com/theinsecuritiesband and stream the songs on the player.

If you dig, currently they have a promotion going on where you can download their current album “Show Your Teeth” on Itunes…might even be free, but don’t quote me on that, I do remember either “Show Your Teeth” or their previous album, “Band The Kiss Hello” was being given away for Free, which with the current state of the music industry is a pretty damn genius idea. Give the fans a dose of your music for free and if they love it, they won’t mind paying for your shit later on! :)

SIDEBAR: Previously featured band, The Armed Forces currently have their own promotion going on right now, you can get a a FREE SONG right now if you a) follow them on twitter (@armedforces) or b) email AFMFHQ@gmail.com

Now, if you have to pay, I highly suggest you pick up that shit if you are digging them cause, take it from someone who was at their CD release show and picked up a physical copy of “Show Your Teeth” it’s pretty damn worth the money..and the album art isn’t bad either!!

Favorite songs from SYT have to be Run Run Baby, Bonnie Vs. Clyde(Mister Mister), Dive Bar Queen, Bleeding Heart. But the whole album is bitchin’!

For all the news and links to everything The Insecurities go to www.iminsecure.com (is that not a awesome dot com address?) There you will find links to all their various social networking accounts. But if that’s too much work for you, then I’ll also include direct links to all that shit (see how easy i’m making this for you?):

YOUTUBE! Next best thing to being at a Insecurities show: http://www.youtube.com/theinsecurities

OH YEAH! Go have a listen to the track, entitled “Im Insecure” off the album, “Ban The Kiss Hello” which feeds on the whole, ‘Tell the Insecurities what YOUR insecurities are. It’s not really a song, as more of a list of common types of insecurities. It’s a very fitting track for a band who named their selves after people’s fears and imperfections!
