Hey Hey Hey, it’s starting to get hard to decide on which bands to feature each week, So with something hard, I’ll move onto something soft….COMASOFT, that is.
Now they aren’t soft, they just happen to have SOFT in their name. They are acually pretty rockin’. Comasoft (www.myspace.com/comasoft) hail from Chicago. Their sound is pretty much a rock/electronica/powerpop sound. It’s kinda like Panic at the disco…except Comasoft is actually GOOD.
I first came across Comasoft when I was at Angels and Kings Chicago for the weekly “One Manno Show” event hosted by local DJ, Ryan Manno. Manno invites the best of the local scene out to play the intimate sardine can that is Angels and Kings. I originally went to Angels and Kings that night to see the headliners, The Insecurities(www.iminsecure.com) oblivious to what else would amaze me, musically.
Like The Crash Moderns, featured earlier, Comasoft successfully allow the keyboards to stand out and get some recognition. Their songs are awesomely catchy..expecually “One To One”, “Atombomb”, and “Put Up a Fight” which are my personal favorites!
The electronica sound and catchy beats really make Comasoft’s music stand out from the traditional rock band. They show bands in the scene that there are better ways to stand out, play/sing catchy songs without trying to be a reincarnation of 90’s pop punk bands.
When I saw them at Angels and Kings, the small stage didnt do much justice to show off their full potential at live shows. The second time I went to one of their shows was at the infamous Metro in Wrigleyville when they opened for another local band you may have heard of called, Madina Lake(who are pretty tight buddies with the guys in Comasoft). The Metro stage is a lot bigger then the Angels and Kings stage(hell the venue in general is wayy bigger then A&K) so I was finally able to see Comasoft at their finest.
I have to say, if you get a chance, go check out a live show cause they are definitely something else. They have a projector on stage projecting their band logo and crazy video clips and stuff, not to mention they have their own mini laser show on stage with strobe lights flashing on and off as well as a smoke machine on stage for dramatic effect.
Alright, so the first time I saw Comasoft, I couldn’t help but notice that lead singer, Jay oddly enough resembles another local Chicago band’s lead singer….Adam Blair from Dot Dot Dot! Small World, ain’t it? I think it might be the hair, or possibly the guyliner! lol
While at the Metro show with Madina Lake, my friend actually made another band reference. This time relating bassist, Chris to the Guitarist(William Cox) in another local band, Danger Is My Middle Name(www.myspace.com/dimmn).
Small world…AND getting smaller!
When you listen to Comasoft for a while, you start to develop a slight similarity to another local band, Kill Hannah (idk, maybe you heard of them! haha!). The only difference b/w the two is that I believe Comasoft is better. I’ve got nothing against Kill Hannah but just Mat Devine’s vocals are a bit too nasally for my liking. I think Jay’s vocals are right on for the style of rock/electronica that Comasoft are going for.
Now again I will say that, reading about their songs would not do you justice, you just have to go to their various social networking sites and click the play button and shake that ass to their catchy, danceable, fist pumping songs!
Guarentee to you that you’ll enjoy them, if not…um, I think there’s a sale on Q-tips at Walgreens this week!
In many ways, Comasoft has a few similarities to another Music Scout band, The Crash Moderns with their catchy, keyboard infested style of rock/powerpop.
